A 4 feet tall bronze statue of a woman carrying a water vessel, used as a mere back yard adornment for 4 decades in a Cleveland home, turned out to be a work of art created in Paris in 1931 by Egyptian sculptor Mahmoud Mokhtar, known as the father of modern Egyptian art.
The piece was sold Oct. 25 through the Cleveland Auction Co. in Tremont for $118,000.
Both seller and buyer wished to remain anonymous.
