Woman to perform marriages in Egypt

Amal Soliman, a 32-year-old lawyer and mother of three, was selected over 10 men for the post of Judicial Assistant, enabling her to read Koran verses, sign marriage certificates and authorize divorces. It is believed this is the first time a female is authorized such duties in Egypt and in the entire Muslim world.
